Maturity

The Lord has recently given me four keys for us as praying folk (and anyone else too) to grow in maturity with Him. Some of the context is from Hebrews 3:7-10.

“Therefore as the Holy Spirit says: Today if you hear His voice do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested me, tried me, and saw my works forty years. Therefore, I was angry with that generation, and said ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways.’”

Intimacy
Let’s be a people who don’t just see the Holy Spirit’s works, but know His ways. A people who are intimately acquainted with the Holy Spirit, who do not go astray in our hearts but know and love the ways of the Holy Spirit.

Generosity
This has little to do with money, although eventually it spreads there, but has to do with the condition of our hearts. Do we want to give to others, do I find myself wanting to horde my time, family, possessions, or am I looking for ways to give away the goodness that God has given me? God likes it when we dump buckets of Him on others; this heart attitude also brings amazing freedom. And always brings more of God, and thus more maturity.

Responding
How do you respond to the Holy Spirit when you hear His voice? Do you say yes? I have never said no, but I know some folks who have told me that the Holy Spirit asked them to do something and they said no. It is also these people, I have noticed, who are both immature in the Lord and growing very slowly with Him. Our response to the Holy Spirit should be, thanks for your voice; we don’t want to harden our hearts, we want to be responsive to you. This response produces a person that the Holy Spirit likes to share His heart with, a mature person.

Responsibility
I want us to be a people who are responsible with what God have given us. What do you do with your God dreams or prophetic words? Do you respond well to them and leave it at that, or do you write them down and meditate on them and ask God to show you more? Being responsible with what we get often dictates whether we continue to get dreams or prophetic words. It definitely dictates whether or not we grow in these giftings. What do you do with the things God gives you? Do you take them seriously? Sometimes a bit of seriousness is needed to mature

  1. You are an amazing writter this article inspired me and even offended me a little because I have not responded properly to the voice of the Holy spirit in the past.I am offended in a good way though it’s provoking me to seek Him out and “here I am what should my walk look like today, and where shall we go?”

  2. Good word! I know for myself, I often forget that generosity means more than money. Thanks for pointing out that it includes so many other areas of our lives as well!

  3. Mithy, you do exist online! I saw a Facebook post for the Dwelling Place and am having a look around the website. I’m so glad I can hear sermons from home and catch some of what you guys are writing/talking about. Miss you much!!
